Jayawijaya — Nikson Matuan, alias Okoni Siep, a suspect in a shooting case, was officially handed over by investigators from Satgas Ops Damai Cartenz-2025 and the Papua Police’s Criminal Investigation Unit to the Public Prosecutor (JPU) of the Jayawijaya District Attorney’s Office on Friday (21/3/2025).
The handover process, which was the second stage, took place at the Jayawijaya District Attorney’s Office with tight security from Satgas Ops Damai Cartenz-2025.
Nikson Matuan was found to be involved in several violent acts, including a shooting that killed Muktar Layuk and injured Korinus Yohanis Wentken on November 5, 2024, on the Trans Wamena-Jayapura road, Hobakma Village, Yalimo Regency. He was also involved in a shooting incident that killed Brigadier Anumerta Iqbal, a member of the Brimob Ops Damai Cartenz-2025, on January 17, 2025, at the same location.
The suspect was arrested by Satgas Ops Damai Cartenz-2025 in Yalimo Regency on February 2, 2025, after being listed on the wanted persons list (DPO).
Head of Operasi Damai Cartenz-2025, Brigjen Pol. Dr. Faizal Ramadhani, S.Sos., S.I.K., M.H., accompanied by Deputy Head of Operasi Damai Cartenz-2025, Kombes Pol. Adarma Sinaga, S.I.K., M.Hum., stated that Nikson would be charged under Article 1 Paragraph (1) of the Emergency Law No. 12 of 1951 Jo Article 55 of the Criminal Code.
“After the handover process is complete, Nikson Matuan will be escorted to the Wamena Class II B Prison for detention. He will then undergo the detention process as a detainee of the Jayawijaya District Attorney’s Office,” said Brigjen Pol. Dr. Faizal Ramadhani.
Meanwhile, Head of Public Relations for Operasi Damai Cartenz-2025, Kombes Pol. Yusuf Sutejo, S.I.K., M.T., emphasized that this step was part of the commitment to upholding the law.
“This is part of the effort to uphold justice so that the perpetrator can be held accountable for their actions in court,” he stated.
He added that Satgas Ops Damai Cartenz-2025 would continue to take action against perpetrators of crime to create security and order in Papua.”
