Jakarta – The Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI) has commended the success of the Task Force Operation Peace Cartenz 2025 in thwarting an attempt to smuggle firearms and ammunition intended for an Armed Criminal Group (KKB) in Puncak Jaya, Papua. The operation is seen as a crucial step in maintaining security and stability in the region.
Mangihut Sinaga, a member of Commission III of the DPR RI, praised the dedication of security forces in the operation conducted from March 1 to March 7, 2025. He emphasized the serious threat posed if the smuggled weapons had fallen into the hands of the KKB.
“We highly appreciate the efforts of Task Force Operation Peace Cartenz in preventing this arms smuggling. This is a concrete step in ensuring security and allowing the people of Papua to live peacefully,” he said in an interview on Sunday, March 9.
Seized Weapons and Key Suspects
During the operation, authorities seized various weapons and evidence, including:
• Two long-barreled firearms,
• Four G2 Pindad pistols,
• Hundreds of rounds of ammunition,
• An air rifle, an air compressor, and
• Cash amounting to IDR 369.6 million (approximately USD 23,500).
One of the key suspects in the smuggling network is Yuni Enumbi, who is believed to be a primary facilitator in the arms trade. Security forces are continuing investigations to uncover the wider network behind the illegal weapons supply to the KKB.
Strengthening Security Measures in Papua
Mangihut stressed that firm action must continue to prevent the circulation of illegal weapons and to stop armed groups from gaining more firepower.
“Security in Papua must be strictly maintained. We fully support law enforcement in tackling arms smuggling to ensure that armed groups do not strengthen their positions,” he stated.
The former Expert Staff of the Attorney General also highlighted the need for strict security monitoring to prevent weapons from entering conflict zones. He urged authorities to use this success as momentum to tighten enforcement against broader smuggling networks.
“This achievement proves that our security forces remain vigilant. We hope that similar operations will continue to eliminate any opportunities for armed groups to disrupt peace in Papua,” said the former Chief Prosecutor of North Sulawesi.
This operation is expected to enhance security in Papua, allowing residents to live without the constant threat of armed violence.
