Jayapura, February 27, 2025- The Head of Public Relations Task Force Ops Damai Cartenz-2025, Police Commissioner Yusuf Sutejo, S.I.K., M.T., visited Sanggar Ameldi in Dok 4, Jayapura City, on Thursday (27/2). The visit aimed to observe firsthand the process of making Papua batik and to motivate an indigenous Papua batik artisan, Joni Silas Wona.

During the visit, Police Commissioner Yusuf Sutejo praised Papua batik for its distinctive patterns that reflect the rich natural beauty and culture of Papua. He emphasized the importance of preserving Papua batik as part of Indonesia’s cultural heritage.

“Batik is one of Indonesia’s cultural heritages, recognized by UNESCO. Papua batik has unique and characteristic motifs that depict the richness of Papua’s nature and culture. This is an invaluable part of Indonesia’s cultural wealth,” he stated.

Meanwhile, Joni Silas Wona expressed his gratitude for the visit and the support provided. He hoped that the motivation from the Head of Public Relations Task Force Ops Damai Cartenz-2025 would help increase the market value of Papua batik, both nationally and internationally.

“My hope is that this visit serves as motivation for us to continue producing Papua batik with high market value, reaching both national and international markets,” he said.

This visit is expected to encourage Papua batik artisans to keep creating and developing Papua’s distinctive batik so that it gains wider recognition.
